We expect all athletes to adhere to the principles, rules, ethics listed below.

Personal Behavior:

• To take responsibility for their own behavior and performance, conduct themself in a professional manner and maintain high personal behavior standards at all times
• Represent NWVC in a responsible and respectful manner.
• Work equally hard for themself and their team, be a good sportsperson, encourage and support my team members, be honest in their attitude and preparation towards training.
• Play by the rules of the sport and maintain the spirit of the game.
• Take the utmost care and respect of the equipment provided to me as part of their program.
• Respect the talent, potential, development, rights, dignity and worth of everyone around them.
• Show respect for themself, their teammates, officials, spectators, their opponents and their skills.
• Arrive at practices 15 mins early so as to allow themself time to get ready.
• Remember that winning is not everything. Having fun, improving skills, making friends and doing their best are also important.
• Remember that coaches and officials are there to help them, and will accept their decisions and always show them respect.
• Cooperate with coaches and staff in the development of programs to adequately prepare them for competition at the highest level.
• Be candid with their coach(es) concerning any illness, injury, and their ability to train fully within the program requirements.
• Advise their coach(es) of any planned absences at least one week in advance, or of any unplanned absences at least 5 hours in advance.

Harassment and Bullying:

• Refrain from conduct which could be regarded as harassment and/or bullying.
• Not be compliant with or accessory to any acts of harassment and/or bullying
• Inform their coach, their team manager or any other NWVC authority figure if they witness any acts of harassment or bullying.

Smoking, Alcohol, and Other Illegal Substances

• Smoking, vaping, drinking of alcoholic beverages, use of any illegal substances and substance abuse is strictly forbidden and in certain cases prohibited by law.
• Understand that engaging in the consumption, purchase, or distribution of any of the above substances while under the legal age of 18 is prohibited by law.
• Understand that if they are over the legal age of 18, that purchase of any of the above substances for the purposes of distribution to a minor is prohibited by law.

We expect all parents to adhere to the principles, rules, ethics listed below.

General:

• Allow their child to take responsibility for their behavior and performance, conduct themselves in a professional manner and maintain high personal behavior standards at all times so that they may represent NWVC in a responsible and respectful manner.
• To participate and contribute an equal share of their time as a scorekeeper/or volunteer in what’s needed for all tournaments that their child participates in.
• Recognize that every member of NWVC is a volunteer and deserves their respect and gratitude for what they are providing in/to this program.
• Help and encourage all volunteers whenever possible to allow them to work to the best of their ability.
• Understand that it is the policy of the NWVC to provide a safe and fun environment for children to play volleyball.
• Respect the decisions of the coaching staff regarding playing time, position, training and their child’s role within those parameters.
• Should they disagree with or wish to discuss a coach’s decision regarding the team or their child the will execute the following protocol:
  • Wait 24 hours following the practice or competition to express their concern.
    • If 48 hours have elapsed then the club will assume that the matter is resolved and is no longer an issue.
  • Contact the coach, describe their concern and arrange to meet for a discussion.
  • Discuss their concerns rationally and endeavour to understand the coach’s perspective.
• Let all participants play for the love of the sport and will not spoil their child’s or any other child’s enjoyment.
• Understand that their role at competitions is to be an enthusiastic team supporter and that it is inappropriate to negatively single out any player, coach, official or minor official whether by name, number, or role.
• Not embarrass their child by yelling at players, coaches, game officials or spectators.

Harassment and Bullying:

• Understand that verbal and/or physical abuse will not be tolerated and will be dealt with accordingly.
• Understand that NWVC enforces a zero tolerance policy towards situations of harassment, bullying or abuse directed against game officials, players, coaches or spectators.
• Not be compliant with or accessory to any acts of harassment and/or bullying
• Inform an NWVC staff member if they witness any acts of harassment or bullying so that it may be dealt with accordingly.

Drugs and Alcohol and Other Illegal Substances:

• Understand that smoking, drinking of alcoholic beverages, use of any illegal substances by their child is not tolerated.
• Understand that if their child is found to be suspected of or found to be/have been in violation of the drug, alcohol and other illegal substance policy, this can result in disciplinary action up to and including expulsion from the club (for which no refund will be provided).

Violation of any of the codes of conduct, or any other conflict situations may result in the following resolution protocols being enacted.

• For the purposes of this policy the “offender” will refer to the individual against whom the policy is being enacted (i.e. athlete, family member, relative, friend, or associate).

Resolution Process:

1. The offense will be discussed with the offender personally in a meeting (in which the team manager and/or NWVC Executive may be present if needed).
2. A temporary suspension will be placed in which:
   1. The offending athlete may not be permitted to attend/participate in any NWVC practices, games, tournaments and/or events.
   2. The offending family member, relative, friend, or associate of an athlete, may not be permitted to attend any NWVC practices or games
      1. Furthermore Volleyball Alberta may be informed which may result in a suspension from tournaments and/or events.
3. The club’s disciplinary committee will meet to discuss the situation and the necessary actions to be taken which can include a warning or up to expulsion for the athlete from the club (for which no refund will be provided).
