General Play Time:

Playing time is a large issue amongst athletes, coaches, and parents. For U15 and below, provincial fair-play rules apply (please see the fair play section below). For U16 and above, the play structure moves to a more competitive base and clubs are allowed to dictate play time according to their own policies.

Accepting a position with North Western Volleyball Club and paying the season fees, entitles you to train, practice, and play as an NWVC Athlete. Playing time, however, is earned and is based on many factors including:

• Attendance
• Attitude
• Work Ethic
• Player Experience
• Skill Level
• Commitment
• Competition Context
• Coaching Decisions
  

Although all players pay the same fees, make similar sacrifices, commitments, and receive the same practice time and attention, competition play time can be very different amongst athletes (especially at higher age groups).

At NWVC, our expectation is that all athletes will train and compete at their highest potential. It is our belief that every athlete should get to experience game time but we balance this with our goal to achieve the highest level of success possible.

Our coaches continuously face the pressures of balancing play time with ensuring the best result for the team. There are various factors when deciding on a line up or a substitution and it is incredibly important that our athlete families support these decisions.

Any concerns with play time should start with the athlete connecting with their coach(es) after a game or tournament. If further discussion is required, the athlete’s family will be included at that time.

Fair Play:

Provincial rules are in place for fair play for age categories of U15 and below. This is done so that each athlete may experience game type situations where they can learn to apply their learnings, build confidence and a passion for the sport.

In a team of 12 athletes, the 6 athletes that start the first set of a match, may not start the second set. 

• Teams are highly encouraged to carry a full roster of 12 athletes however this is not always the case and may result in exceptions.

Furthermore, this rule also applies to substitutions.

• At U14 and below teams cannot make any substitutions within a given set.
• At U15 teams cannot make any substitutions until a team reaches 15 points in either the first or second set.
• An injury substitution does not apply to the above rules. However, the injured player may not return for the remaining duration of the set.

We expect all members to understand and follow the guidelines and procedures listed below:

North Western Volleyball Club (NWVC) may use an athlete’s or their family member’s story, photo, or other item, hereinafter referred to as  “materials” to and for the club’s website, YouTube and/or any social media accounts.

The materials may be used in print, online, and/or electronic publications,  presentations, promotional literature, advertising, websites, social media, and/or in similar ways.

No royalty, fee or other compensation shall become payable for such use.

General Media Guidelines:

• You are accountable for what you communicate (including via social media).
• Use common sense and good judgment when posting.
  • Keep in mind that what you post or publish becomes public and permanent information and can continue to exist and be shared, even if you delete it. 
• Read your post before posting to be sure that it is appropriate. When in doubt, don’t post it!
• Refrain from the use of profanities or other inappropriate phrases or comments. 
  • Re-posting another inappropriate post carries the same consequences as if you were the original.
• NWVC logos, crests and/or its visual identity cannot be used for personal media (including social media) without the club’s permission. 
• Exercise discretion, thoughtfulness, respect and be aware of how your post will affect others and you.
  • Universities, scouts, professional teams, organizations, and potential employers all review social media sites as part of evaluating candidates for many roles.
• Avoid disclosing personal details about yourself and others around you.
• Know and respect the laws governing copyright and fair use or dealing of copyrighted materials, including NWVC’s copyrights and brands.
• Confidential or proprietary club information should not be shared publicly (including via social media).
• Confidential, competitive or commercially sensitive information, should not be shared without the express permission from NWVC.
• Club information must be released through the club’s official social media accounts before others can re-publish such information through their individual accounts.
• Social media should not be used for the posting or exchanging of information that has the potential to embarrass or bring discredit to NWVC or its related parties.
• Do not post or comment on disciplinary issues, legal issues, media-related issues, or potential crisis issues without authorization from NWVC.
  • Your posts could be used in ways you never intended, including using you as a spokesperson whether you want this role or not. 
  • Only those authorized by NWVC Executive can act as spokespersons for the club.
• NWVC’s website and social media accounts may choose to post or repost club-related social media content generated by others, including coaching staff, parents, players, and directors. 

Due to the ever-evolving nature of social media, these policies and guidelines are subject to revision at any time by the club.

Violation of this policy is subject to investigation and disciplinary action by NWVC and may result in expulsion from the club.  All matters will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.

The North Western Volleyball Club season deposit is a non-refundable fee.

It is the responsibility of the participant-family to review and ensure club fees are paid in full and on time.

A payment structure (for the season) will be presented at the parent/athlete meeting at the beginning of the season. 

Refunds (beyond the season deposit) are subject to a case-by-case analysis

Should an athlete and/or their family decide to not continue with NWVC for any specified season, there will be no refund.

In the event of an injury to the athlete, or if the athlete or their family decides to not pursue volleyball due to illness, postponement or cancellation of the volleyball season, or for any other reason, prior to any payment being processed, it does not release the athlete and their family (the payee) from any or all outstanding fees and/or the payment plan obligation and any incurred penalty fees.

Any late fees will incur a $50 admin fee (regardless of the amount owed and/or the form of payment).

If the season fees are not paid by the date of the first premier tournament (hosted by Volleyball Alberta), and if a prior agreement has not been made with the club, the athlete in question will not be eligible to participate in the tournament as well as any subsequent practices and tournaments until such a time when payment has been made.
